This is me - trying to look funky - and a little bit anonymous.

Ever since being given a second hand camera by my grandparents when I was

about seven or eight, I have enjoyed taking photographs. (I seem to remember it was mostly of ducks when I first received the camera!)  For years I carried around a big camera in my handbag, just in case I saw something, which I usually did. (This was in the days before almost everyone carried a camera everywhere in the form of a phone.) Because that is the way now, I don't feel quite so special for always having a camera to hand.

I feel that I am often drawn to things which others may not see and have certainly had some funny looks over the years as I start snapping away at the washing up at the sink, at the puddle in a gutter or spend a couple of quality hours with a cabbage. - I can't help it!

Visually there is just so much to wonder at in day to day life, often in things we might tend to look through or past a lot of the time. I see patterns and composition everywhere and just

love when a set of colours present themselves in a scene so as to complement each other perfectly. Shape, colour, and form come together all the time to please the aesthetic senses.

On occasion I will have some fun with objects, arranging them in a set and playing with lighting. If you just take a rummage around the house there are some really pleasing household objects to play with, stuff from the toolbox or the kitchen drawer.

The magnificence of the natural world amazes me every day, the way the light affects a landscape, or the patterns and colours within a leaf or flower. The world is a beautiful place if you just go out and look at it.

As you will see, I have a few obsessions! Reflections possibly being the biggest one. Whether it be reflections in the glass of a building or in a puddle on the ground,  I am hooked, I can rarely resist a good reflection. Reflections can confuse reality and there is something I quite like about this. There is a fascination with droplets and bubbles too, I don't really know quite what it is, I just find them so satisfying. Shadows too, I am often tempted by a fascinating shadow. I think this is partly because there is an element of something being there but not there, there is evidence of something being present without the emphasis actually being on the subject itself, also shadows can create fantastic patterns.

Sunny winter days are a favourite of mine for photography, the low sunlight of winter can render a landscape almost ethereal on some days, and winter shadows can just be fabulous. Winter sun makes for big shadows.

Strong contrasts in light and shade always draw me in too, If a picture is mostly about pattern, composition and, or texture, especially if there is a strong contrast between light and dark, I like to use black and white or sepia in order to emphasise this.

I don't often photograph people and if I do so it is usually more about their shape in space rather than about them personally. Almost all of my photographs of people render them fairly anonymous. (Don't psychoanalyse me on this one). This is not a reflection of my attitude to people, I love people and am very sociable. I think it is more about the aesthetic of a composition for me, rather than about the person themselves.

Silhouettes are another favourite of mine, whether it be people or something else.

The 'Silly Mini World' - ok, I just couldn't resist adding this to my site in the end. This was a period a while ago when I just got obsessed with silly ideas and creating miniature sets out of these ideas. The ideas started to drive me crazy for a while, popping into my head in the middle of the night and robbing me of sleep. Fortunately I got through it in the end!

Anyway, I just love taking pictures - it's something I have to do - I just see things constantly that I want to capture. If you just open your eyes and look, the world around you is a fascinating place visually.

As well as my passion for photography, I am also an artist. You can find my artwork on a separate website at:
